Jetstar has embraced innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology aimed at minimising flight delays and cancellations. By utilising real-time data, the airline can now foresee and address maintenance problems proactively, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
Their latest aircraft, the A321neo, recently underwent rigorous testing in Toulouse, France, showcasing Jetstar’s commitment to cutting-edge technology. This milestone reflects the airline’s strategic partnership with Airbus’ SKYWISE platform, which continuously monitors aircraft data to anticipate maintenance needs before they arise. Since its international deployment in 2017, this technology has proven effective, significantly improving operational reliability.
Jordan Beecroft, Jetstar’s Senior Fleet Engineering Manager, noted the unprecedented insights gained from this AI integration. He explained that maintenance can now be scheduled during downtime, ensuring the necessary parts and personnel are on hand, allowing the aircraft to return to service without passengers experiencing any disruption.
In the past year alone, this AI-driven approach successfully prevented over 40 flight cancellations, achieving a remarkable 93% reduction in engineering-related cancellations. Following the success of this predictive maintenance system, Jetstar aims to explore further applications of AI and advanced technologies to enhance punctuality across its fleet.
