Emergency services responded to a house fire on Chapel Street in St Kilda around 8:40pm on Wednesday evening. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a critically injured 60-year-old man within the residence, but he tragically died at the scene.
The following day, detectives executed a search warrant at a location in St Kilda and apprehended a 30-year-old man. After being questioned, the man was released while investigations continue.
Authorities emphasise that the inquiry is still active and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist with the case.
