Rugby league icon Greg Inglis recently launched a significant mental health initiative called Stick With It in Redfern, Sydney, through his organisation, the Goanna Academy. This campaign aims to address alarming suicide rates and will feature thousands of rugby players nationwide donning the message on their strapping tape throughout the month.

Inglis emphasised the campaign’s goal of fostering conversations around mental health, stating, "No matter what we’re going through, trust the process, stick with it, stick at it." He believes that even a single conversation could transform or save a life. At the launch, he was accompanied by Rabbitohs star Cody Walker, an ambassador for the Goanna Academy, who noted the importance of acknowledging and navigating personal struggles, particularly in the NRL community.

The Stick With It campaign is slated to culminate in Round 22 of the NRL, where players will sport the message on tape, symbolising mental resilience. According to the Goanna Academy, this initiative is more than just a statement; it’s a movement aimed at dismantling stigma, catalysing genuine dialogues, and generating funds for essential mental health and wellbeing programmes in Australian schools and communities.

Founded in 2020 by Inglis after his retirement from an illustrious career with clubs like Melbourne, South Sydney, and Queensland, the Goanna Academy is dedicated to improving mental health for young Australians. Walker, who has battled injury setbacks this season, expressed confidence in his abilities and eagerness to continue playing, stating, "I absolutely love the game, I love the club."

This campaign is crucial not only in raising awareness but also in providing support for those in need. Inglis and Walker’s efforts highlight the power of sports as a platform for positive change in mental health advocacy.
