A helicopter accident has led to a fuel leak at an airport located in Melbourne’s south-eastern region. Emergency services were alerted to the incident, which occurred around 2:30 PM, when the aircraft, transporting two individuals, crashed in Moorabbin.
Both the pilot and the passenger sustained only minor injuries following the crash. Reports indicate that one of them has been taken to the Alfred Public Hospital for treatment, as confirmed by Ambulance Victoria. Aerial views of the scene reveal the damaged helicopter, which is covered in foam sprayed by firefighters in response to the incident.
Flight tracking data indicates that the helicopter had taken off from Moorabbin shortly before the crash but went down only minutes after its departure. In light of the accident, a representative from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) stated that they had been informed of a “collision with terrain” incident involving an R44 helicopter that was conducting training operations in the area.
Authorities are currently managing the situation as they assess the incident’s details.
