A recent shooting incident in Manhattan has left one New York Police Department (NYPD) officer injured, alongside two civilians. Authorities believe the gunman is deceased following the confrontation. The scene, which was described as “contained,” involved a “lone shooter” who was neutralised according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Reports indicate that the shooter, armed with a long rifle, entered a corporate building, which is situated near Park Avenue and East 51st Street. One civilian is critically injured, while the other civilian and the officer, who sustained a gunshot wound to the back, are expected to recover. The officer was reportedly stationed outside the building at the time of the incident.

In response to the shooting, the FBI has dispatched personnel to assist at the active crime scene, as confirmed by Deputy Director Dan Bongino. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has confirmed that investigations are underway and has urged anyone in the vicinity to exercise caution and avoid the area. Meanwhile, Governor Kathy Hochul has also been briefed on the situation and echoed similar safety warnings.

Witnesses observed law enforcement acting with caution, taking cover as they monitored the situation. A significant police presence was reported around the building, and officials have classified the scene as “very active.” The 634-foot skyscraper located at 345 Park Avenue houses several corporate offices, including those for the National Football League and Blackstone, and occupies an entire city block.

Due to the ongoing investigation, New York City’s emergency management system has issued warnings about possible traffic disruptions, street closures, and delays in mass transit in the area. The NYPD is continuing to provide updates as the situation develops, with more information expected from CNN and other news outlets.
