Tragedy struck a bustling fresh food market in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday when a gunman opened fire, resulting in the deaths of five individuals before taking his own life, as per local police reports. Among the deceased were several security guards at the renowned Or Tor Kor market, situated in the Chatuchak district, which attracts both locals and international tourists alike.
The Erawan Medical Centre, responsible for coordinating emergency medical responses, confirmed that two women sustained injuries during the incident. Eyewitness accounts suggest pandemonium ensued as the gunman wielded a handgun, with video footage circulating online depicting him dressed in a baseball cap, shorts, and a backpack, casually walking through the market.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the shooter’s motives. Police General Kitrat Phanphet, head of the national police, has instructed local officers to expedite their investigations and meticulously gather evidence, including reviewing closed-circuit television footage from the area.
