On 24 March 2016, Radovan Karadzic, the former leader of the Bosnian Serbs, was convicted by the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands for war crimes, including genocide, committed during the Bosnian civil war. His charges were primarily linked to the horrific massacre that took place in July 1995, wherein over 8000 Muslim men and boys were killed by Bosnian Serb separatist troops in Srebrenica. Following his conviction, Karadzic received a life sentence, holding him accountable for these atrocities.
