A witness at a murder trial has recanted his testimony, claiming he previously lied under oath. He stated that the accused individuals were intoxicated and armed during the alleged murder of 15-year-old Cassius Turvey, a Noongar Yamatji boy, who succumbed to injuries after being attacked in Perth’s eastern suburbs on 13 October 2022.
The defendants, Jack Steven James Brearley (23), Brodie Lee Palmer (29), Mitchell Colin Forth (26), and Aleesha Louise Gilmore (23), are facing a trial in the West Australian Supreme Court. Tyler Gilmore, Aleesha’s brother, testified that leading up to the attack, he received threatening calls and texts. He noted that the accused were wielding weapons, including a metal pole and knuckledusters, before heading out to confront perceived threats to their family home.
Under cross-examination, Tyler admitted inconsistency between his original statements and his latest testimony, conceding that he misled the police about his knowledge of the events following Cassius’s death in order to protect his sister and her associates. The trial continues as the court seeks to establish the truth behind the tragic incident.
