At the recent Golden Globe Awards, Australian actress Margot Robbie did not secure a win for her role in Barbie. Instead, Emma Stone took home the award for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Poor Things. However, Barbie did not leave empty-handed, winning the newly established Outstanding Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, which Robbie celebrated as a victory for film enthusiasts.
While Barbie missed out on Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Oppenheimer was a standout success, clinching Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director for Christopher Nolan. Notable performances included Cillian Murphy winning Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, while Sarah Snook triumphant for her role in Succession.
The night also saw Elizabeth Debicki win Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown. Additionally, Lily Gladstone made history as the first Indigenous winner in her category for Killers of the Flower Moon. The evening was filled with surprises, including Beef claiming numerous awards, and the introduction of a new stand-up comedy category, awarded to Ricky Gervais. The results hint at a competitive awards season ahead, especially with Oscar nominations approaching.
