Investigators are currently looking into a fire that severely damaged a family home on the Gold Coast. The incident, which occurred just before 11pm in Hollywell, is suspected to be connected to an electric vehicle parked in the garage.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour before bringing it under control. Fortunately, the family—a father, his baby, and two young daughters—managed to escape safely. The mother, who is a paramedic, was on duty when she received news of the fire and rushed home to assist her family.
Witnesses from a nearby residence reported being startled awake by a loud explosion moments before the fire broke out. Neighbours quickly sprang into action, attempting to extinguish the flames before emergency services arrived. In the process, one man suffered a broken ankle and is scheduled for surgery.
Residents described the harrowing scene, with one stating, “We just saw all the sirens and came out to see the flames, it was quite frightening.”
Fire investigators revisited the location the following morning to continue their examination. Their initial findings are suggesting that the focus is on a charging device for the electric vehicle involved in the incident, as firefighters work to piece together the cause of the fire.
The house was left significantly damaged with visible signs of the fire’s intensity. The community has rallied around the family as the investigation unfolds.
