As floodwaters begin to recede, the full scale of destruction in North Queensland becomes clearer. Homes and businesses have been severely damaged, with furniture and appliances ruined, resulting in substantial debris strewn about. Many local supermarkets are running low on supplies, while the demand for generators has surged, as emergency services alongside the Defence Force strive to deliver essential items to isolated areas.
In response to this crisis, locals on the Gold Coast have rallied to help those affected. A law firm made headlines by donating $5000 for vital supplies, encouraging other businesses, including construction and crane firms, to follow suit. Solicitor Ron Behlau expressed a strong sense of responsibility, stating, “We thought it was incumbent on us here on the Gold Coast to pitch in and lend a hand as good Queenslanders do.” He emphasised the significance of each contribution, noting, “Every dollar counts; it means that a generator can keep going for someone.”
As the community comes together during this challenging time, the spirit of resilience and support shines through, highlighting the importance of camaraderie in recovery efforts.
