The tragic case of Cassius Turvey, a 15-year-old Noongar Yamatji boy, unfolded after he was allegedly attacked with a metal pole on October 13, 2022, in Perth, resulting in his death ten days later. Four individuals—Jack Brearley (23), Brodie Palmer (29), Mitchell Forth (26), and Aleesha Gilmore (23)—are currently on trial for his murder. The prosecution asserts that Cassius’s death resulted from a “complex series of events” unrelated to him, beginning just days earlier with an assault on two children, purportedly linked to a love triangle involving Gilmore’s younger brother.

In the days leading up to the attack on Cassius, tensions escalated, leading Brearley and his associates to arm themselves with metal poles and seek retribution after their car was vandalised. Witnesses described an angry and chaotic scene where Brearley allegedly pursued and struck Cassius multiple times as he attempted to escape with other schoolchildren. The trial continues, revealing the harrowing details surrounding this young boy’s death and the events that led to it.
