South Australia has lifted its rideshare boundaries, introducing a new travel option for those wanting to venture outside the metropolitan areas. This significant change allows services like Uber to operate in regions such as the Barossa Valley, particularly during the upcoming AFL Gather Round in April. South Australian Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis highlighted that this initiative will greatly benefit regional communities, facilitating access for football fans attending the state’s football festival.
The new rideshare regulations will take effect this weekend, coinciding with the removal of similar restrictions for taxi services. Additionally, the state government is reinstating free Footy Express services for the 2025 AFL season, aimed at simplifying travel for fans to and from the city.
Koutsantonis announced that Adelaide Metro will enhance public transport options with approximately 300 extra bus, train, and tram services scheduled for every home game of the Crows and Port at Adelaide Oval, as well as throughout the Gather Round events.
Overall, these changes promise to improve accessibility and transport options for both locals and visitors, especially during major sporting events.
