A 61-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of Tanya Lee Glover, whose remains were uncovered in the basement of a Brisbane unit complex, where they had been concealed for over a decade. Glover, aged 38, was reportedly killed in January 2010, with her remains discovered by cleaners behind a wall on December 7, 2022.
Detective Inspector John Mison described the situation as unprecedented, noting the unusual nature of finding remains in such a densely populated area, merely five kilometres from the city centre. The long duration of concealment raises many questions. Mison emphasised the tragic nature of Glover’s death and expressed a commitment to seeking justice for her family.
The identification of Glover’s remains was aided through DNA analysis and genealogical data, which allowed police to inform her parents of her passing after they had lost contact with her. Glover had visual and hearing impairments and had been living in affordable housing in Fortitude Valley, just near Brisbane’s central business district.
Interestingly, the woman charged with Glover’s murder resided in the same complex but was not living with her; their relationship is described as one of friendship. Mison revealed that Glover was not known to the police prior to this incident and had typically led a reclusive life.
Investigators are still unclear about the exact connection between Glover and the accused woman, as well as the specifics surrounding Glover’s death and the additional fraud charge that has been laid. Police are calling for anyone with relevant information pertaining to Glover’s murder to come forward as they continue their inquiries.
The charged woman, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, was apprehended in Townsville and faces multiple charges including murder, misconduct with a corpse, and fraud. Authorities have withheld details regarding the circumstances of Glover’s death or the nature of the fraud involved.
