An 18-year-old French woman is set to appear in a Perth court following charges of importing a significant quantity of methamphetamine into Australia. She arrived at Perth Airport from Paris on April 25 and was selected for a luggage inspection by Australian Border Force officials. During the examination, officers discovered approximately 10.7 kilograms of a white crystalline substance concealed in five sealed plastic pouches within her suitcase.
The Australian Federal Police were notified of the incident, subsequently seizing both the suitcase and the woman’s mobile phone. It is believed that she intended to travel onward to Sydney with the drugs.
The young woman faces a charge of importing a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug. She had previously made an appearance in Northbridge Magistrates Court on April 26 and is currently remanded in custody, awaiting her next court appearance today.
