In a distressing incident off House Beach in Western Australia, four false killer whales have perished, while three others remain stranded. The beach, a secluded 150-metre expanse located approximately 12 kilometres east of Bremer Bay—roughly 540 kilometres south-east of Perth—was the site where the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) received a report about the stranded whales.

Upon arrival, DBCA staff confirmed the unfortunate fate of four whales. Drones have been deployed to monitor the area for any additional strandings. Wildlife experts are now focusing their efforts on attempting to refloat the three surviving whales. However, if these attempts are unsuccessful, and no humane alternatives are available, euthanasia may be considered as a last resort.

The DBCA has indicated that the decision will be made with careful assessment of the situation, with euthanasia being a likely outcome if necessary. Meanwhile, a shark alert has been issued for the House Beach area, as the presence of the stranded whales, along with their carcasses, poses a risk of attracting sharks. The public is urged to steer clear of the vicinity and exercise heightened caution as the situation unfolds.
