Five individuals have been charged following a violent incident at a children’s football match in Sydney’s south-west. The altercation occurred during an under-sevens game on Saturday morning at Prospect View Park, involving teams Marconi Juniors and South West Wanderers.
The conflict reportedly erupted on the sidelines after a call from the referee displeased one of the mothers. This prompted another mother to step in, leading to a brawl. Local witnesses described hearing considerable shouting and commotion from their homes.
As a result of the incident, a man in his 20s and a woman sustained minor injuries and required medical attention. In response, police intervened, arresting five individuals. Among them, two men and two women face charges of affray, while a third man has been charged with offensive conduct. All will appear in court in May to answer these allegations.
The Southern Districts Football Association has stated that they are investigating the matter and will forward it to their judiciary. They emphasised their non-acceptance of such behaviour at sporting events.
