In a significant shake-up at the Carlton Football Club, Brad Lloyd, the head of football, is set to depart after a tenure that began in 2018. His departure follows a recent endorsement of coach Michael Voss for the 2026 season, marking the first major change in the club’s restructure as they reassess their direction.

Over his five-year stint, Lloyd has navigated various coaching regimes, working with Brendon Bolton, David Teague, and Voss. Despite a challenging environment—with two head coaches dismissed, several leadership shifts, and considerable player turnover—he managed to guide the team to the 2023 preliminary finals. However, following a disappointing 2025 season and amidst new leadership under chief Graham Wright, the decision to part ways with Lloyd was made.

Lloyd will fulfil his responsibilities over the final two rounds of the season before officially leaving the club. In a statement, Wright expressed gratitude for Lloyd’s dedication and pivotal role within the organisation, highlighting his efforts in leading the football department through difficult times, culminating in consecutive finals appearances.

Lloyd shared his reflections on his time at Carlton, noting the growth of the football program from a challenging start in 2018 to a competitive side. He acknowledged the collaborative effort of the staff and expressed pride in his contributions while also emphasising the club’s strong foundation for future success.

The recruitment for Lloyd’s successor will begin immediately, although no specific timeline has been established for the appointment. Lloyd’s legacy is notable, being the brother of Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd and former Geelong football administrator Simon Lloyd, underscoring a significant football lineage.
