A significant house fire in Pooraka, a suburb of Adelaide, has led to the hospitalisation of an elderly woman and the total loss of her home. Emergency services responded to an urgent call just after 10pm, arriving at the property on Curbur Avenue to find it fully ablaze.
Neighbours desperately attempted to alert the woman, concerned for her safety. Local resident Jayla Mohr Thomson recounted how they pounded on the windows and doors in a bid to get her attention, fearing for her life. Fortunately, firefighters managed to locate the woman in her backyard and transported her to the hospital, much to the relief of those who had awaited news of her wellbeing.
The fire reportedly began in a front bedroom and rapidly spread throughout the house. While firefighters did an admirable job preventing the fire from affecting adjacent properties, the elderly woman’s residence was left entirely destroyed. The estimated damage costs are around $600,000.
An investigation is underway to determine what caused the devastating fire. As for the elderly woman, she is currently stable and receiving medical care in hospital.
