The ACT Brumbies have achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Australian side to defeat the Fijian Drua on their home turf, securing a thrilling 36-32 victory in Suva. Flanker Luke Reimer showcased his talent, scoring two crucial late tries and making important breakdown turnovers, demonstrating his potential to Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt. Despite the intense heat and an earlier head injury assessment, Reimer played a vital role in the match.

Brumbies captain Ryan Lonergan commended his team’s resilience, noting they adapted well to the pressure exerted by the Drua. Lonergan praised the strong performance of the six debutants fielded by coach Stephen Larkham, who had to do without several prominent Wallabies. This victory followed a successful opening round for Australian teams, with the Waratahs also winning their match.

Lonergan emphasised the importance of teamwork and adaptability, indicating a stronger connection within the squad compared to the previous season. The Drua faced challenges with yellow cards, which impacted their performance, whilst the Brumbies capitalised on their opportunities. The team looks forward to their next match against the Force, buoyed by their debutants’ efforts and the encouraging start to the season.
