A tragic head-on collision occurred in Queensland’s Central Highlands, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including a father and his two children. The incident unfolded yesterday on the Capricorn Highway, just before 11am, when a Holden Commodore collided with a Toyota Hilux ute.
The deceased were identified as Shaun Ranger, his seven-year-old son Baylee, and six-year-old Chandler, along with another male passenger in the Commodore. Their fiancée and mother, Renee, along with their youngest daughter Saphora, aged two, were driving in a separate vehicle, directly behind the tragic scene. The family was reportedly returning from a camping trip.
Inspector Ben Wiltshire, who attended the scene, described the crash as occurring at high speed, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles and horrific injuries. Two men in the Toyota, who were on their way to work, also sustained injuries; a 28-year-old man remains in serious but stable condition, while a 27-year-old man was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash, and Inspector Wiltshire emphasised that it is too early to assign blame or consider charges. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by a friend to support Renee and Saphora during this devastating time. The fundraising initiative aims to honour Shaun, Baylee, and Chandler, who were described as bringing immense joy to those around them.
