Tributes have been shared for Paulo Mau’u, a man who tragically lost his life at a Meriton construction site in Carlingford, Sydney, while another worker remains in critical condition. The incident occurred around 9 am when a concrete pump apparently fell on the two men.

Mau’u later succumbed to his injuries in hospital, prompting heartfelt messages from family and friends. They recalled his positive spirit, stating that his “good vibes and energy” made him unforgettable, and shared their sorrow over this tragic event. One family member expressed their condolences, highlighting the loss his family is enduring, while others conveyed their disbelief at the news, reaffirming how much he would be missed.

The second victim, a man in his 30s, is still hospitalized and fighting for his life. Following the incident, Meriton expressed their profound sadness, extending sympathies to the affected families. A spokesperson conveyed the company’s sorrow, stating, “Our hearts go out to their families, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”

NSW Premier Chris Minns also expressed his condolences, sharing his distress at the thought of a worker leaving for their job and not returning home. He acknowledged the dangers associated with certain jobs in the state, despite advances in workplace health and safety.

Furthermore, New South Wales Police have launched an investigation, and the incident has been reported to SafeWork. Meriton confirmed its cooperation with the investigating bodies. The community is now coming together to remember Mau’u while hoping for the recovery of the other injured worker.
