The devastated family of Heather Turner, a schoolgirl murdered in Adelaide 27 years ago, is once again appealing for information that could lead to identifying her killer. In an exclusive interview with 9News, Heather’s relatives expressed their intention to seek a coronial inquest into the unresolved case in hopes of finding justice.

Heather, who was just 16 at the time of her death, has remained a haunting memory for her family, who have grappled with the unanswered questions surrounding her murder. Kym Maree Kuijeers, a close relative, described Heather as a cheerful and lively girl, acknowledging the lasting impact of her tragic loss.

The events of January 1998 saw Heather enjoying time at Semaphore Beach with a friend, but she latterly went missing after planning to walk home to Largs Bay. Instead, she was last seen in Daveron Park, where police believe she encountered a group of individuals in their twenties at a nearby home. She was reported missing and, two weeks later, her body was located in a creek at Port Gawler, partially submerged, leaving her family to ponder the circumstances of her final days.

The grief for Heather remains palpable, with her family still seeking answers. Kuijeers insisted that there must be people out there who know the truth about what happened. She underscored the importance of closure not just for the family but for the broader community, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The police suspect that Heather was murdered at an undisclosed location prior to her body being moved. As the family looks to reinvigorate the search for justice, they’re considering a coronial inquest to unearth further details about the case.

Kuijeers remains steadfast in her resolve to uncover the truth, stating she will not rest until those responsible are held accountable. The family has received support from the Attorney General, Kyam Maher, who noted the significance of their efforts to solve the case. He assured that any request for an inquest would be given due consideration.

A reward of $1 million is on offer for anyone who can provide information that leads to a conviction. The Turners maintain hope that one day, justice for Heather will be achieved.
