The family of Ash Gordon, a Melbourne doctor tragically stabbed to death outside his home, expressed their relief following the conviction of his teenage murderer. A 17-year-old was found guilty of murder by a jury in the Supreme Court of Victoria, having already admitted to two counts of aggravated burglary.

Ash’s sister, Nat, conveyed the family’s gratitude for the verdict after what she described as a prolonged and emotionally draining ordeal. "Receiving a guilty verdict was a significant relief for the family," she shared with A Current Affair. While they recognise that this outcome cannot bring Ash back, it reassures them of the support they have from those around them.

On January 13, the day of the incident, Ash was awakened in the early hours by intruders in his Doncaster unit. He pursued the two 16-year-olds but was fatally stabbed less than a kilometre from his home. His father, Glen, reflected on the family’s struggle to cope with their loss, noting that the verdict lifted a considerable burden off their shoulders. Although the situation remains tragic, he added, "at least the person got what he deserved."

Throughout their grief, Ash’s family has become advocates for stronger bail laws and harsher penalties for young offenders. Nat emphasised the necessity of continuing their fight, stating, "It’s a small win for us, but it serves the wider community and the justice system as well." She expressed her desire to prevent other families from experiencing similar pain, firmly stating, "We won’t give up… If there are no consequences, this will keep happening."

Nat remains resolute in her mission to ensure her brother’s legacy is not forgotten, underscoring the importance of justice in preventing future tragedies.
