The family of Thomas Callam Phillips, a fugitive who has been eluding authorities while hiding with his three children in the New Zealand wilderness for almost four years, has made a heartfelt public appeal for his return. Phillips vanished in December 2021 after failing to return his children to their mother, Cat. His children, Ember, Maverick, and Jayda, aged nine, ten, and twelve, respectively, have not had contact with her since their disappearance, raising serious concerns about their welfare.
In a recent interview, Phillips’ sister, Rozzi, expressed the family’s deep longing for him to come home. Overwhelmed with emotion, she conveyed her sentiments directly to her brother, saying, “I miss being part of your life” and urging him to return. She also shared a touching handwritten letter from their mother, which highlighted the pain of separation and a longing for connection with her children. Cat’s letter detailed her love for the children and the distress she feels from their absence, stressing that they deserve better lives.
Despite multiple sightings and appeals for information, Phillips and the children’s whereabouts remain a mystery. Authorities in New Zealand are gravely concerned about the conditions in which the children are living, especially since they believe Phillips may be living “off the grid” using survival skills to sustain them. In June 2023, police offered a significant reward for information leading to their safe return, but progress has been limited.
Phillips is wanted for several alleged crimes, including an armed bank robbery in May 2023, where he was seen with a female accomplice. He has been involved in further incidents, including vandalism and theft. Reports suggest that there may be supporters assisting him in avoiding capture. The police’s lack of updates and the ongoing mystery have left the family desperate for news.
Rozzi explained that her reason for speaking out now is to reach out to her brother in the hope that he understands he can return home safely. Last year, their mother made an emotional plea directly to anyone with information about the children, reminding them that they are innocent and need care.
The situation remains precarious as authorities continue to search for the missing family, hoping for a resolution that will see the children returned to their mother safely.
