Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated first-person RPG, Avowed, is set to transport players into the intricacies of Eora, offering an immersive experience unlike that of the Pillars of Eternity series. Recently, 9news.com.au had the chance to explore a mysterious dungeon within the game, showcasing its dark magic and convoluted corners.

During my brief session, I interviewed production director Ryan Warden, who detailed the game’s gentle introduction to Eora. Warden emphasized that players won’t face an overwhelming lore dump but rather a smooth integration into the narrative.

One of Avowed’s key features is its classless RPG system, allowing players unmatched flexibility in character creation. Users can mix and match abilities and gear, fostering unique playstyles without being confined to predefined roles. Choices made during gameplay significantly influence the world and narrative, which remains a hallmark of Obsidian’s design approach. For instance, players can decide to assist or abandon an injured character, resulting in varied outcomes.

While Avowed features large exploratory areas, it is not entirely an open-world game; instead, it adopts an “open zone” structure, reminiscent of The Outer Worlds. This design aims to engage players while avoiding overwhelm.

Set to launch on February 18 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC, Avowed promises to be an exciting adventure for both series veterans and newcomers alike.
