Phil Gould believes the Gold Coast Titans possess the talent to contend for the finals, expressing confusion over their persistent challenges. Following a disappointing debut season under coach Des Hasler, finishing in the bottom-four, many expect a turnaround in 2025. However, their pre-season started poorly, conceding 50 points against a weakened Broncos team despite a lineup of stars.

On “Wide World of Sports,” Gould noted that while trial games can be misleading, the Titans’ performance was concerning. He highlighted long-standing defensive issues, despite the team’s attacking prowess, and pointed to the need for a consistent strategy and mentality. With multiple playmaker options available, including Kieran Foran, AJ Brimson, Keano Kini, and Jayden Campbell, the Titans must settle on key positions.

Gould expressed that the Titans have the potential to be a top-eight team if they can harness their capabilities effectively, urging the coaching staff to identify and rectify underlying issues rapidly. As the team prepares to face the Dolphins, they must improve significantly ahead of the regular season to shift perceptions and challenge higher-ranked teams. With Tino Fa’asuamaleaui returning from injury and new recruit Reagan Campbell-Gillard awaiting his debut, the Titans have an opportunity to bounce back and showcase their true potential.
