Billy Slater has called on the Gold Coast Titans to retain Jayden Campbell, highlighting the loyalty the second-generation player demonstrated earlier in his career. Campbell, currently without a contract beyond next season, is poised to enter the open market on November 1, where he is expected to draw significant interest from other clubs.

Since making his NRL debut with the Titans four years ago, Campbell has started to shine, particularly in the halfback position. Despite being a standout performer during a challenging season, contract discussions have stalled, and there were even rumours that the Titans might consider shopping him around to other teams.

Speaking on the Billy Slater Podcast, Slater voiced his concerns over the Titans’ contract negotiations, stating, "He’d be in my team, absolutely." He recalled Campbell’s 2023 re-signing, noting that the young player opted to stay with the Titans despite having opportunities to earn more money elsewhere. Slater commended Campbell for deciding to remain in his hometown and labelled him a player the Titans should build around.

Describing Campbell as his favourite player to watch, Slater praised his humility, respectfulness, and remarkable versatility on the field. He articulated that Campbell’s dynamic running style and passing ability have solidified his role as the team’s halfback, following a period where he played primarily at fullback and five-eighth. In his 73 games for the Titans, Campbell has scored 24 tries, showcasing his lineage as the son of club legend Preston Campbell.

This season, Jayden Campbell has already made a mark with nine try assists and 51 broken tackles in just 15 matches, strongly establishing himself in the halfback role. While the Titans have secured fellow spine players AJ Brimson and Keano Kini through to 2030, there are questions about the future of Kieran Foran, who is retiring after this season, and Tom Weaver, whose contract is up in 2026.

As the Titans navigate their roster, the retention of Campbell will be crucial, especially considering his impressive form and potential as a key player for the club moving forward.
