A man has been charged after allegedly driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) six times over the legal limit in Sydney’s south-west. The incident occurred on Saturday night when police received reports of an SUV being driven erratically on the Hume Highway in Menangle. At approximately 10:40 PM, officers intercepted the vehicle.
Upon stopping the SUV, the 37-year-old driver reportedly failed a breath test and was arrested. A subsequent breath analysis conducted at the police station indicated a staggering BAC of 0.317. Authorities have also stated that the man’s provisional driver’s licence had lapsed for more than two years.
For provisional drivers in New South Wales, the legal BAC limit is set at zero, while fully licensed drivers face a limit of 0.05. Notably, a BAC of 0.4 per cent poses significant risks, often deemed potentially lethal.
The man, a resident of Randwick, has received a court attendance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on April 17. Until then, his driving privileges have been suspended.
