A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody following an early-morning car chase in New South Wales’ Central West, during which he reportedly struck a police officer with his vehicle.
The incident began around 1am when police spotted the man driving a station wagon in Denman. The pursuit lasted nearly two hours, with the vehicle reaching speeds of 170 km/h before continuing toward Mudgee. The situation escalated when the driver finally stopped on Robertson Road at approximately 2.20am. As officers approached the car, he allegedly accelerated and hit one of the officers, prompting the police to fire shots at the fleeing vehicle. Despite these events, the driver managed to evade capture at the scene.
Later, the hired station wagon was discovered abandoned on Lewis Lane in Dunedoo around 6am. Remarkably, the injured officer remained on duty and did not require medical assistance.
This chase followed an earlier incident that occurred the previous evening, around 6pm, when police were alerted to a motel on Cumberland Street in Cessnock due to concerns surrounding a guest. Upon arrival, officers found the motel room unoccupied and subsequently established a crime scene, although the reason for the initial call was not disclosed. It is alleged that the man arrested is connected to the events unfolding at the Cessnock motel.
The suspect was located and arrested in Mendooran at 11.30am the same day. Following his arrest, he was transported to Dubbo Hospital for treatment, where he remains under police supervision. Reports indicate that his injuries stemmed from the earlier incident at the motel in Cessnock.
