A 29-year-old man has been charged with high-range drink driving in northern New South Wales after being caught allegedly operating his vehicle over seven times the legal alcohol limit. At approximately 1.30pm, local police received multiple reports of a white Holden Rodeo driving erratically in the Speers Point area, with witnesses noting it collided with both gutters and concrete median strips.

Police intercepted the vehicle on Croudace Bay Road, Belmont. Upon conducting a roadside breath test, the driver recorded a positive result. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Belmont Police Station, where further analysis revealed a staggering blood alcohol concentration of 0.359, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 0.05. For context, a blood-alcohol level of 0.4 is considered dangerously high and can be fatal.

Following the incident, the man was issued with a court attendance notice, and his driving licence has been suspended. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 18.
