A shocking speedboat collision in the Nerang River, Queensland, has been captured on CCTV, showing one boat crashing dramatically onto another. The incident involved Scott Freeman, a well-known Gold Coast gym owner, who admitted to a lapse in judgement while at the helm of his high-powered boat, which was travelling over 50 km/h at the time of the accident.
In court, Freeman pleaded guilty and was fined $7,000, with no conviction recorded. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $5,000 in compensation to the victim, who sustained serious injuries, including spinal fractures, and required lifesaving surgery, spending nearly two weeks in hospital. Freeman expressed remorse, stating, “I just want to say sorry to those involved; it was a terrible boating accident.”
Despite the severity of the crash, the court noted he was not speeding and tested negative for drugs and alcohol. The case highlights the importance of safety and caution while operating watercraft, particularly in heavily trafficked areas.
