Greens senator Dorinda Cox has made a surprising switch to the Labor Party, leaving her former party just weeks after the federal election. In a statement made in Perth alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Cox revealed that her decision came after significant consideration, emphasising her dedication to the Greens’ campaign during the recent election.
Cox expressed that her departure was not made impulsively. “It’s been over a period of time that I’ve considered this,” she noted, reflecting on her decision-making process which involved discussions with various individuals across the political landscape.
During her time with the Greens, Cox held multiple spokesperson roles, covering crucial areas such as First Nations affairs, resources, trade, and tourism. She also played a part in the selection of Larissa Waters as the party’s new leader.
Cox’s defection highlights the ongoing shifts within Australian politics and raises questions about future dynamics within both the Greens and Labor parties.
