Donald Trump has expressed enthusiastic support for Sydney Sweeney’s latest jeans advertisement for American Eagle, shortly after discovering that the actress is a registered Republican. On Monday, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to label Sweeney’s commercial as the “‘HOTTEST’ ad out there,” praising her work and noting that the jeans are “flying off the shelves.”
Trump’s admiration for Sweeney stands in stark contrast to his criticisms of fellow celebrity Taylor Swift, whom he has described as “woke.” He stated, “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!), she was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.” He concluded his remarks with a dismissive comment about the “woke” culture, claiming it is for “losers,” and endorsed the Republican Party as the preferred choice.
The former president’s comments on Sweeney’s political affiliations came after a reporter informed him of her Republican registration while he was at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Pennsylvania. In response, Trump declared his newfound appreciation for Sweeney’s advertisement, remarking, “You’d be surprised how many people are Republicans,” while expressing his gladness to learn of her political alignment.
However, the American Eagle ad featuring Sweeney has faced controversy, with some critics alleging it promotes themes associated with a discredited agenda often utilised by white supremacists in the United States.
Following Trump’s positive endorsement, shares of American Eagle surged by 20% when trading closed on Wall Street on Monday.
