Tragedy struck in Ocean Grove, south-west Victoria, as three-year-old Heidi was tragically killed by a vehicle last Friday. The incident occurred when a driver reportedly accelerated out of a library carpark just before 5pm, resulting in the death of the beloved toddler.

Her heartbroken parents, Nathan and Liesl, shared their profound sorrow while expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support from the local community and beyond. “The outpouring of love has been beyond description,” they stated. Many passers-by, local business owners, paramedics, and police offered assistance and compassion at the scene, which has deeply touched the family.

As a testament to their loss, the family highlighted the numerous heartfelt messages and cards left at the accident site, which they cherish. Heidi is remembered fondly as a “beautiful” girl with a love for singing, particularly her cherished song, “This Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine.” Her family described her presence as a “shining light” that brightened their lives and the lives of everyone who met her during her short time on earth.

In navigating this tragic event, Nathan and Liesl expressed hope in the love and support from family, friends, and their faith. They also expressed concern for the 71-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle involved in the incident, stating they were praying she receives the necessary care and support.

Following the accident, the driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol testing before being released after questioning, as investigations into the incident continue. The community has come together in mourning, with floral tributes growing at the site of the tragedy, underscoring the impact young Heidi had on those around her.
