Daly Cherry-Evans has expressed that he is unfazed by potential fan criticism following his decision to part ways with the Manly Sea Eagles. In an interview on Nine’s 100% Footy, the halfback confirmed he would not accept the latest contract offer from the club, signalling a shift in his career.
Cherry-Evans provided insight into his decision, emphasising his ongoing affection for the Sea Eagles despite his departure. “The club will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will love it forever,” he remarked, acknowledging uncertainty about the club’s response to his decision but remaining optimistic.
As Manly prepares for their upcoming match against Parramatta, Cherry-Evans is not overly concerned about potential backlash from devoted fans. “To be honest, no, I’m not worried,” he stated, acknowledging that while it would be naive to assume no criticism would arise, he feels a strong sense of support from many at the club.
He revealed that the Sea Eagles were made aware of his intentions not to continue with the team back in December, and he has experienced a mix of emotions leading to this decision. Cherry-Evans admitted that the prospect of new beginnings, possibly including retirement or playing elsewhere, has brought both excitement and nervousness.
