Daly Cherry-Evans has officially declined Manly’s offer for a contract extension and will part ways with the club at the conclusion of the current season. The 36-year-old playmaker informed the club of his decision on Thursday, choosing not to accept the revised two-year deal presented to him.

As a result, Cherry-Evans is likely to either sign with another NRL team or retire while remaining a one-club player. Following a few chaotic days, Manly’s chief executive, Tony Mestrov, expressed the club’s disappointment over Cherry-Evans’ decision but voiced respect for his choice. “Only Daly knows what is right for him and his family. We do know that he is the ultimate professional and he will want to go out a winner,” Mestrov remarked.

The all-time games record holder for Manly has signalled his intention to continue playing, with potential interest from clubs such as the Roosters and Dolphins. In a previous statement, Cherry-Evans emphasised his wish to provide clarity early in the year regarding his future, as he aims to depart with a premiership ring. “I wanted to confirm I was leaving the club now, rather than making a call later in the season, so that we can get on with our goal of winning a premiership,” he stated.

Cherry-Evans, who has a deep affection for the club and his teammates, assured fans of his full commitment to making the final months of the season as successful as possible. He is scheduled to play this Sunday against Parramatta at Brookvale Oval, determined to give his best effort as he finishes his tenure with Manly.
