Two cruise ships have been redirected from Brisbane due to the impending approach of Cyclone Alfred along the Queensland coast. In a recent update, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli confirmed that, among three vessels currently located off the coast, one will proceed to Brisbane, while the other two are seeking alternative ports.
Crisafulli expressed the government’s commitment to assist the redirected ships. He noted that information was recently received regarding the status of these vessels, and efforts are underway to find suitable docking locations. The Premier assured that assistance will be provided to both the ships searching for new ports as well as the one planning to dock in Brisbane, which will facilitate the offloading of passengers.
The upcoming cruise ships scheduled to dock at the Port of Brisbane include the Queen Anne today, the Pacific Encounter tomorrow, and the Norwegian Sun on Wednesday. Ship tracking indicates that the Queen Anne is currently located near Gladstone, several hundred kilometres north of Brisbane, while the Pacific Encounter is positioned east of the Gold Coast. In contrast, the Norwegian Sun is further away, situated in the Coral Sea south of New Caledonia.
The situation continues to develop as authorities monitor Cyclone Alfred’s trajectory and work to ensure passenger safety during this weather event.
