A courageous 91-year-old widow, Joanna “Jopie” De Loryn, recently confronted an intruder in her Brisbane home. During a routine rubbish disposal last Wednesday, she encountered a hooded thief in the midst of stealing her belongings. Displaying remarkable bravery, Jopie successfully fought back, retrieving her handbag and chasing the intruder away. Although the suspect has been apprehended, some of Jopie’s cherished jewellery remains missing, leaving her understandably shaken.
In a heartwarming turn of events, a reporter from Today Brisbane surprised Jopie with a spa day to honour her bravery. She enjoyed a relaxing facial and massage at Endota Spa, a first-time experience that brought her immense joy. “Oh, fantastic, I’ve had such a good time,” she exclaimed, grateful for the pampering.
Moreover, to help restore some of the sentimental loss, Today presented Jopie with a $1000 gift card for new jewellery, addressing her heartbreak over the theft of her late husband Bart’s rings. The couple shared a profound bond, having survived World War II together before immigrating to Australia, building a life side by side for 65 years. Despite the distressing incident, Jopie’s spirit remains resilient, and she is thankful for the kindness shown to her.
