Couple Arrested in Connection with Alleged A-League Football Betting Scandal

Two individuals have been charged in relation to an investigation into alleged cheating in A-League football matches involving betting. Authorities claim that four matches held in April and May 2025 were linked to instances of betting manipulation through player carding.

Detectives from Victoria’s Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit apprehended a 24-year-old man from West Melbourne and a 27-year-old man from Kingsville on Friday. The West Melbourne man faces a total of 10 charges, including four counts of engaging in conduct that corrupts or is likely to corrupt a betting outcome, four counts of facilitating such conduct, as well as charges related to the use of corrupt information for betting purposes and attempting to commit an indictable offence.

In comparison, the Kingsville man is charged with 16 offences, comprising 11 counts related to the use of corrupt conduct information for betting and four counts of facilitating corrupt betting outcomes, alongside an attempt to commit an indictable offence.

Both men have been granted bail and are scheduled to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 31 July. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with Football Australia, highlighting the joint efforts to uphold the integrity of the sport.
