Victims of a Perth builder are being advised to reach out to their insurers following the company’s collapse. The Tingey Development Group has entered liquidation, leaving numerous construction projects, including homes, left unfinished.
Among those affected are Simon and Sheri Davies, a couple who have been eagerly anticipating their dream home for three years. They initially purchased land in Bayswater, but after their first builder, Modco Residential, went insolvent, they turned to Tingey for completion. While the construction started promisingly, communication issues emerged, and the project stagnated. Despite expectations of finishing last year, the site became a target for squatters due to the prolonged inactivity.
The Davies have faced financial strain, managing both mortgage payments and rental costs in the interim. They expressed their desire to start a family, but feel a lack of stability living month-to-month in a rental.
Recent complaints about Tingey have surfaced, and this incident marks the third building contractor in Western Australia to go bankrupt in a few months. Despite these challenges, the liquidation opens new doors for Tingey’s customers, allowing them to claim under home indemnity insurance and seek alternative builders to complete their homes.
However, the construction industry in Western Australia is grappling with a skilled worker shortage, complicating the recovery process for affected homeowners. The situation is developing, and efforts to reach the Tingey Development Group for comment are ongoing.
