A prisoner who escaped from the Palen Creek Correctional Centre south of Brisbane on May 27 has been apprehended following a series of events that unfolded earlier this week. The man reportedly stole a Mercedes-Benz from a residence on Bell Street in Kangaroo Point five days after his escape.

On the morning of June 6, police received reports of a crash involving the stolen vehicle in Mount Gravatt East, where it had collided with parked cars. Witness accounts indicated that the driver fled the scene on foot. Shortly after, he allegedly attempted to steal a car from a rideshare driver at a nearby fast-food restaurant, but was thwarted by a member of the public.

Police then received calls about the escapee attempting to break into homes on Pine Mountain Road to procure car keys. This led to his eventual arrest in the backyard of a residence shortly afterward.

The 38-year-old man now faces multiple charges, including those related to theft, robbery, and driving offences, and was expected to appear in court following his arrest.
