Canterbury Bulldogs’ general manager, Phil Gould, recently disclosed that fullback Connor Tracey was hospitalised following the team’s victory over Manly on Sunday due to a severe injury. Despite completing the match, Tracey experienced intense abdominal pain linked to an issue with his "inferior epigastric artery."

Gould mentioned on Nine’s 100% Footy that Tracey had been managing an abdominal strain for several weeks leading up to this incident. There were initial concerns that Tracey might require surgery; however, it seems the injury is manageable without surgical intervention. Nonetheless, he has been advised to take a complete three-week rest before he can resume light training.

This injury raises doubts about Tracey’s potential availability for the finals. Gould expressed his hope for a swift return, recognising the unfortunate circumstances for both Tracey and the Bulldogs team. With six rounds remaining in the season, he remains optimistic about Tracey getting back onto the field.

As a result of Tracey’s injury, Blake Taaffe is considered as a potential replacement. However, Taaffe himself has been absent from play for a month due to a hamstring issue.

Overall, the situation underscores the challenges faced by the team as they navigate the tail end of the season with injuries impacting squad depth.
