Commercial Pilots Cautioned About Potential Live-Fire Drills by Chinese Vessels Near Australian Waters

Andrew Probyn, national affairs editor at 9News, reports that at least two pilots operating different aircraft detected transmissions from a Chinese naval vessel this morning, alerting them to an imminent live fire exercise. According to 9News, Airservices Australia has informed commercial pilots about the People’s Liberation Army Navy conducting live fire drills in the Tasman Sea, in the region between Australia and New Zealand. The naval group has approached to within approximately 150 nautical miles (276km) of Sydney, though it remains in international waters.
