A tragic incident occurred in Cawdor, NSW, where business owner and mother Rosanna Hashem lost her life after a lightning strike caused a tree to explode at approximately 5.30 pm. Hashem, who was outside with a friend, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her friend sustained serious injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Jemma Powell, who had worked with Hashem, expressed her grief, referring to the event as “really tragic.” She described Hashem as a devoted mother of four, a supportive wife, and the sole owner of The Groomery Sydney, a business she operated from her home. Powell highlighted Hashem’s passion for animal welfare and her commitment to serving the community over the past five years.
The lightning strike was particularly devastating as it not only impacted Hashem but also affected young children who witnessed the event. Emergency services arrived promptly, with NSW Ambulance spokesman David Kynaston stating that the two women were seated about six metres from the tree, which had exploded due to the strike. The Groomery Sydney announced on social media that it would be closed until further notice following this heartbreaking accident. This event coincided with severe weather warnings in the area, prompting local authorities to advise residents to stay indoors.
