Family and friends are mourning the loss of Will Thurston, a 27-year-old rugby player from the Bay Vikings in New South Wales, who tragically passed away last weekend while on holiday in Bali. Thurston was receiving treatment for a pancreatic abscess at an Indonesian hospital when he succumbed to septic shock in the early hours of Sunday. His relative, Ashlee Maree, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, revealing that he took his final breath at 2:04 am in a place he loved dearly.

The Bay Rugby Club paid homage to Thurston, recalling him as a loyal and hardworking individual, whose vibrant spirit and love for life left a lasting impression on those around him. The outpouring of tributes in the club’s post reflects the impact he had on his community.

The Thurston family established a GoFundMe campaign on February 14 to assist in bringing his body back to Australia. In a post, Maree indicated that Thurston’s condition had taken a turn for the worse just hours before his passing. As they work to arrange a proper farewell, there remains uncertainty regarding the repatriation of his body. The heartfelt tributes continue to flow as everyone remembers Will, who will always be cherished at the age of 27.
