Authorities have released footage in connection with a targeted shooting that occurred in Fawkner, Melbourne, on October 3, 2024. Emergency services responded to an incident on Denys Street after a 49-year-old man from Lalor was shot shortly after 9:30 am.
Investigators suspect the victim was deceived into attending the location under the guise of receiving a quote for a trade job. CCTV footage revealed a white Mercedes Benz, believed to be a 2018 GLC43 model, circling a roundabout on Denys Street at around 9:05 am before parking. The victim arrived shortly after 9:30 am, walking along the street when a man exited the vehicle and approached him, shooting him in the left ankle. The bullet passed through, subsequently hitting his right foot. The injured man was transported to hospital, where he continues to receive treatment for his severe injuries.
After the shooting, the assailant fled back to the waiting Mercedes, which was displaying cloned plates numbered 1NB7FC, and the vehicle remains unaccounted for. Police believe that the premises provided to the victim were randomly selected for the attack, as there is no connection to the residents of that street.
Witnesses described the gunman as being of African descent, approximately 182 cm tall with a slim build, dark hair, and brown eyes. A digital composite sketch of the suspect has been published, and it has been noted that at the time of the incident, he was dressed in a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, black track pants, and black-and-white sneakers.
In an effort to gather more information, investigators have released the CCTV footage from the shooting and are appealing for anyone with relevant information to come forward. Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack.
