Carlton Football Club has officially retained coach Michael Voss until the end of the 2026 season, despite ongoing speculation and unrest among their supporters. Voss’s position came under scrutiny following Melbourne’s decision to sack Simon Goodwin, but he remains contracted for the upcoming season.

After a comprehensive five-hour board meeting, the Blues announced their support for Voss moving forward. This decision follows a challenging 2025 season in which Carlton has struggled and is now out of the finals race, continuing a trend from a disappointing 2024. Historically, the club has had a high turnover of coaches, sacking four since 2012, which further intensified external pressure for a coaching change.

Carlton President Rob Priestley confirmed that the board, in agreement with new chief executive Graham Wright, believes Voss is the right person to lead the team. “We were clear following round 16 that we would utilise these remaining games to make calm, rational and fully informed decisions that will take our football club forward and that is what we will continue to do,” Priestley stated. This sentiment underscored the club’s commitment to making thoughtful choices about their future, starting with their coaching position.

Voss has engaged in regular discussions with Wright, focusing on what is needed to improve team performance. Priestley praised Voss’s leadership under pressure, emphasising the coach’s dedication to Carlton. “Michael’s ability to lead our football club this year in the face of incredible pressure has displayed the attributes of a strong and selfless leader,” he noted.

Moving forward, the Blues have three remaining matches against Gold Coast, Port Adelaide, and Essendon, as they look towards the off-season. Given their decision to keep Voss, significant changes may still be necessary within his coaching staff and the player roster to align with the desired improvements. As new leadership with Priestley and Wright takes charge, the club remains focused on clarity and a constructive approach to elevate their performance.
