A new trial commencing tonight will restrict cars, buses, and trucks from a 250-metre section of the popular Surfers Paradise Esplanade on the Gold Coast. This initiative, lasting three months, will cover the area from the Surfers Paradise Surf Club to the Soul Building and aims to enhance the beachfront experience for families by hosting a series of free activities.
To implement this, bollards and boom gates will be installed to manage access. Notably, emergency services will continue to have full access to the esplanade throughout the duration of the trial. However, the decision has sparked diverse reactions from the public, with some expressing concern about potential traffic congestion on adjacent roads.
Authorities will closely monitor the trial’s effects on traffic flow and the overall experience for both residents and visitors. The outcome will inform future decisions regarding the use of this prominent area, balancing community feedback with the need for accessibility.
