A driver crashed through the fence of a childcare centre in Alexandra Hills, east of Brisbane, narrowly avoiding disaster as the vehicle came to a stop just inches from an outdoor sandpit. The incident occurred shortly after 3pm when emergency services were alerted to the scene. It reportedly involved a mother who miscalculated her manoeuvring while entering the car park, resulting in her vehicle breaching the steel fencing of the Hills Montessori centre.
Fortunately, the children present at the centre were unharmed, with the exception of one child who suffered a minor scratch when falling off play equipment. First responders expressed relief that there were no serious injuries, stating that the situation could have been far worse.
Centre owner Rebecca Grugan commended her staff for their swift response during the incident. She conveyed her gratitude, noting that it was a “what if moment” that left her thankful that everyone was safe. Paramedics treated the female driver for a head injury at the scene but confirmed that she did not need hospitalisation.
The timely action of the staff, coupled with the fortunate circumstances, meant that most of the children remained unscathed, reinforcing the importance of vigilance and preparedness in childcare environments.
